Eco Valentine's Fun

  • On Valentine's Day, we celebrate love in all forms. This year let's consider love for the environment and the planet. We have prepared some Valentine's Day activities for kids that don't pollute the Earth nor involve buying new things.

  • Recycled crayon hearts

If you have kids, you also probably have pieces of old crayons around the house. Gather them, and let's recycle them into a heart-shaped, multicolor gift. First, remove the remaining paper from the crayons and then cut them into smaller pieces. Prepare a heart-shaped silicone mold and preheat the oven to around 200 degrees.

Have your kids fill the molds with crayon pieces; the more colorful, the better. Place the molds into the oven and wait until the crayons melt. Take out of the oven and let it cool until they solidify again. Pop them out of the molds and use Valentine's gifts or for coloring!

And What Else?

  • Potato stamps

If your kids write cards, they could use some cute, heart-shaped stamps. If you don't have any, you don't need to buy them. Make them from a potato! Cut a potato in half and have your kids draw a heart on them. Then, cut out the outer part of the heart, and a stamp is born! On the other half, cut out the inner part of the heart, to have a different heart design. Now your kids can decorate everything they want with hearts!

  • Love mailbox

Help your kids prepare a “love mailbox”, and everyone in the family can deposit their cards and written notes in it.

Take an old cardboard box, seal it and cut out a mailbox opening. Then have your kids paint it and decorate it with hearts or whatever they feel like represents love. They can use the potato stamps!
