Let's Green Our Bathroom

  • Around 30% of the average household water use is used by toilets. There are many water saving technologies for taps and toilets which you can integrate into your homes, reducing the amount of water you use per flush.

  • When we brush our teeth, we can turn the water off. And we can also teach our kids to do it. This simple routine can get kids involved, build great habits from an early age and help save our planet!

  • We could also set timers for showers (to avoid spending more time than necessary) or invest in water saving technology. This may be a bit pricey at first, but it can help reduce waste and cut costs in the long run, ultimately paying for itself.

  • Or, we could opt for showers instead of baths, as an effective change. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a full bathtub uses about 70 gallons of water, while a 5-minute shower uses only 10-25 gallons.

  • Eco-friendly products are abundant. One way to be greener is to buy eco-friendlier soaps and shampoos. They are great for adults and for kids! These products are natural and don’t use harmful chemicals.

Did You Know?

  • Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save 8 gallons of water per day. Saving 5,700 gallons a year! For comparisons sake, a typical household uses 9,400 gallons a year. (EPA).

  • A study in 2002 by the US Geological Survey found persistent detergent traces in 69% of streams sampled across the USA, and 66% contained disinfectants. These are not biodegradable!

  • Giving your bathroom a high-efficiency makeover by installing water-saving toilet, shower-head, and faucet aerator can pay for itself in as little as 1 year. It also uses 20% less water.

  • About 30% of all the clean water we use is used to flush the toilets.
