Eco Fun: Making a Bird Feeder

  • Bird watching is a popular hobby. Even for people who do not know the bird name enjoy observing them. In the city, the opportunities to do so may be scarce.

  • What if there was a way to attract more birds to the kids' yard or window, so they get to watch them

  • If they offer the birds their favorite treats, and they might find a way to their window. They will keep coming for more! To make this bird-feeder, the main ingredient is creativity.

  • You will need the following materials: milk jug, twine, bird food, 2 Round wooden sticks, knife or cutter, painting supplies

Now What?

  • Clean and dry the jug.

  • Cut out holes in different shapes on each side of the milk jug. They should be big enough for the birds to enter but small enough to protect the feed in case of rain.

  • Make 2 small holes on the opposite sides of a jug, under the holes they already made. Kids can slide the stick through them.

  • Do the same with the second stick. The birds will sit on the sticks while feeding.

  • Let the kids paint the jug.

  • Tie the twine around the neck of the bottle to hang it.

  • Fill the bottom part of the jug with bird food.
